PRINCETON, N.J. (4/14/16) - Two unbeaten Ivy League teams will battle it out for sole possession of first place in the league as No. 11 Princeton hosts Cornell on Saturday at noon. The Tigers will honor the Class of 2016 as Saturday marks Senior Day for Liz Bannantine, Anya Gersoff, Maddy Lynch, Anna Menke and Stephanie Paloscio
Eye on the TigersPrinceton is looking to stay unbeaten in the Ivy League as it currently has a 3-0 record with wins over Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth. The No. 11 ranked Tigers are coming off of a 15-6 loss to No. 1 Maryland from Wednesday, which dropped them to 8-3 on the season - though all three losses have been to teams ranked in the top 10. The Tigers offense is led by junior Olivia Hompe and her 42 points. She has scored 33 goals and has added nine assists. Sophomore Abby Finkelston contributes 16 goals and three assists, while senior Anya Gersoff and sophomore Colby Chanenchuk each chip in 17. Chanenchuk has the most assists on the team with 14. Also in double figures is sophomore Ellie McNulty with 16 points, senior Stephanie Paloscio with 15 points and sophomore Camille Sullivan with 11. Junior defender Madeline Rodriguez has won 18 draw controls with McNulty taking in 16. Defenders Liz Bannantine and Amanda Leavell are one caused turnover apart with 17 and 16 to each their credit. Junior Ellie DeGarmo is 8-3 in goal with a .546 save percentage and a 9.00 goals per game. She also has a team-best 23 ground balls.
The Series
Princeton has a substantial 34-4 edge in the all-time series with Cornell. The Tigers have won the last four meetings including a 13-11 game last year. Cornell's last win was a 13-12 overtime game here in Princeton during the 2012 regular season.
Scouting the Big Red
Cornell comes to Princeton with a 10-1 overall record after a 10-7 win at No. 10 Penn State on Wednesday evening. The Big Red are 4-0 in the Ivy League with wins over Yale, Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth. Cornell is 2-1 against ranked teams as they topped No. 19 Albany 9-5 and lost No. 1 Maryland 17-9. The Big Red average 10.55 goals per game and have held teams to 6.55. Emily Tripodi sits atop the scoring column with 22 points on six goals and a team-high 16 assists. Olivia Mattyasovszky has the most goals, 20 and adds one assists. Taylor Reed chips in 19 points, followed by Amie Dickson's 17, Joey Coffy's 16 and Kristy Gilbert's 15. Maddie Kiep has a team-best 25 draw controls with Coffy just two behind. Catie Smith has by far the most caused turnovers on the team with 29 and also sports a team-best 32 ground balls. In goal, Renee Poullot has a .474 save percentage and a 6.61 GAA. She averages 5.8 saves per game.
