PRINCETON, N.J. (4/21/16) - The No. 10-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team looks to shake off a midweek bump in the road and get back on track Saturday at Columbia. Game time is at noon at Comisso Soccer Stadium in the Bronx.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton looks to rebound after a 12-7 defeat at the hands of No. 17 Penn on Wednesday night. It snapped a 17-game Ivy League win streak for the Tigers. At 9-4 Princeton is ranked No. 10 in the latest IWLCA national poll and is tied for first place in the league with a 4-1 record, along with Penn and Cornell - who had yet to play each other. Junior Olivia Hompe paces the offense with 36 goals and 10 assists for 46 points. Sophomore Abby Finkelston adds 21 points on 18 goals and three helpers. Fellow classmate Ellie McNulty and Colby Chanenchuk chip in 19 points apiece, with Chanenchuk owning a team-high 16 assists while McNulty has 16 goals. Four other Tigers are in double digits in scoring. Junior defender Madline Rodriguez leads the team in draws with 20, followed by McNulty's 17 and junior Amanda Leavell's 16. Senior Liz Bannantine and Leavell are the team leaders in caused turnovers with 19 and 17, respectively. Junior Ellie DeGarmo owns every decision in goal and has a .550 save percentage, the best save percentage in the country, and a 9.08 goals against average.
The Series
Princeton has never lost a game in the series with Columbia, winning 18 straight games since 1998. The largest margin of victory was an 18-goal game in 2000 the smallest being 6 goals year, a 12-6 game in Princeton.
Scouting the Lions
Columbia is 6-7 on the season and is 1-4 in the Ivy League after defeating Brown 13-9 last Saturday. The Lions average 10.92 goals per game and allow 11.08 gpg. Offensively the team is led by Victoria Kalamaras and her 41 points. She has 21 goals and a team-high 20 assists. Three other players have more goals with Lindsey Ewertson leading the charge with 29, followed by Sara Ruzzi with 28 and Taylor Quinn with 22. Jessie Ambrose has contributed 25 points on 20 goals and five assists to round out the top five scorers. Ewertson has won 42 of her team's draws and Quinn bringing in the next 37. They are also the leaders in caused turnovers with 18 and 17, respectively. Kelsey Gedin has played every minute in goal and has a .419 save percentage and an 11.05 GAA.
