Princeton Cruises to 14-9 Win at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. (4/23/16) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team had points from 10 different players to cruise to a 14-9 win over Columbia on Saturday, April 23 at Rocco B. Commissio Soccer Stadium. Junior Olivia Hompe paced the offense with four goals, four caused turnovers, three draw controls and four ground balls. Junior goalie Ellie DeGarmo made 10 saves.
Princeton (10-4, 5-1 Ivy) jumped out to a 5-1 lead midway through the first half with two goals from freshman Kathryn Hallett.
Columbia (6-8, 1-5 Ivy) responded with two goals but the Tigers answered back with goals from senior Anna Menke and junior Lauren Steidel to keep a four-goal cushion, 7-3 with 2:07 left in the first. Taylor Quinn notched two quick strikes in the final 1:42 to push her team within two, 7-4 at halftime.
The Tigers went on a four-goal run in the first 4:58 of the second as Hompe scored twice and senior Anya Gersoff and sophomore Colby Chanenchuk had a goal and an assist each.
The Lions started the slow things down and matched the run with a four-goal set in a span of 12:50 with goals two free-position goals followed by Taylor Quinn scoring an unassisted goal then setting up Victoria Kalamaras for a tally to set the score 11-9 with 6:37 to play.
It was all Orange & Black from here on out as the Tigers rattled off three goals, as Camille Sullivan, Chanenchuk and Hompe scored, and the defense did not allow a single shot on goal to improve to 19-0 in the all-time series with Columbia.
Chanenchuk had a banner day with a hat trick and one assist, while sophomore Ellie McNulty had three assists. Hallet had two goals and one assist, while Gersoff had a goal and an assist each. Freshman Nonie Anderson won a career-high three draw controls.
Columbia's offense was led by Quinn who had three goals and two assists. Jessie Ambrose had two goals and one assist and Kalamaras tallied two goals. Kelsey Gedin made eight saves and allowed 14 goals.
Princeton travels to play Brown in the regular-season finale next Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. Brown knocked off Dartmouth 8-5 this afternoon.
