BOX SCORE
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (4/30/16) - The Princeton women's lacrosse defeated Brown 8-3 in the regular-season finale to win its third Ivy League title in three years and 12th in program history.
The Tigers share the title with Penn who defeated Cornell this afternoon. Princeton will be the No. 2 seed in the Ivy League Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Cornell on Friday in the semifinals, while Penn will take on No. 4 seed Harvard. Game times are yet to be determined.
Princeton had a 5-0 lead at halftime, getting goals from five different scorers. Senior Anna Menke put away an Anya Gersoff pass to put Princeton on the board 2:32 into the game and junior Olivia Hompe followed up with her 41st goal of the season from Stephanie Paloscio. Sophomores Ellie McNulty and Camille Sullivan scored unassisted goals before Colby Chanenchuk fed freshman Elizabeth George for the final tally of the first half.
Brown started the second half with back-to-back goals within 1:58, the first from Jillian Lee and the second a free-position goal by Richael Walsh.
Paloscio ended the Princeton drought as she buried a Hompe quick transition pass at 18:39.
Lee collected her second of the game, scoring on an eight meter - as two of Brown's three goals had to come off of free chances, thanks to the stingy defensive effort.
Gersoff net her 16th goal of the season with 5:40 to play, her 96th career point. McNulty capped off the scoring with her second of the game and 18th of the season on Paloscio's third point of the game with 1:55 remaining.
Junior Ellie DeGarmo made nine saves in the win for the Tigers, who improve to 11-4 overall.
Victoria Holland stopped five shots for Brown, as the Bears end their season at 6-9 and 1-6 in the Ivy League.
Brown had a 29-16 edge in shots and won 10 of 13 draw controls. The Bears had a 20-15 edge in ground balls, while Princeton forced more turnovers, 6-1.
