PRINCETON, N.J. (4/27/16) - It's the final game of the 2016 regular season for the Princeton women's lacrosse team. A win for the Tigers will clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title for the program, which would be their third in three in three years and 12th overall.
The host of the Ivy League Tournament will also be decided on Saturday. Princeton will host with a win and a Cornell win over Penn. Penn would host with a win over Cornell, Cornell would host with a win over Penn and a Princeton loss at Brown.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton is No. 12 in both national polls this week and No. 5 in the NCAA RPI with a 10-4 overall record. The Tigers are averaging 10.29 goals per game and holding teams to 9.00. Junior Olivia Hompe is the team's leading scorer with 50 points on 40 goals and 10 assists. Three sophomores follow: Colby Chanenchuk with 23 points, Ellie McNulty with 22 points and Abby Finkelston with 21 points. Seniors Anya Gersoff and Stephanie Paloscio contribute 20 and 17 points as well. Junior defender Madeline Rodriguez has 22 draw controls and 25 ground balls, while fellow defender Liz Bannantine has a team-best 19 caused turnovers. Junior Ellie DeGarmo is 10-4 in goal with the best save percentage in the nation at .548, a 9.07 goals against average while cleaning up 26 loose balls.
The Series
Princeton holds a 33-4 edge in the all-time series with Brown since the teams first met in 1980. Brown snapped a 23-game losing streak in the series in 2004 with a 14-13 overtime victory. Since then the Tigers have gone 18-1 in the Ivy League including a 14-8 win over theBears in Princeton last spring.
Scouting the Bears
Brown is 6-8 overall and is tied for last place in the league with a 1-5 record, its win being an 8-5 victory over Dartmouth from last Saturday. The Bears average 6.64 goals per game. Senior Lauren Toy has a team-high 31 points on 22 goals and nine assists. Freshman Hafsa Moinuddin adds 20 points on 12 goals and eight assists, while junior Jillian Lee has 13 goals for 15 points. Both junior Kerianne Hunt and sophomore Rose Mangiarotti chip in 13 points apiece. Hunt has won the most draw controls, 25. Junior defender Ali Kim has the most caused turnovers and ground balls with 14 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls. Senior Victoria Holland owns every decision and had a .478 save percentage and an 8.31 GAA.
