PRINCETON, N.J. (4/6/16) - The wait is finally over! It's been over a month since the Princeton women's lacrosse team has played on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. On Saturday, The Tigers begin a four-game homestand as they host Yale at 3 p.m.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton is 11th in the both national polls this week with a 7-2 overall record, and a perfect 2-0 Ivy League mark. The Tigers have not played a home game since the Ivy League opener against Dartmouth on March 5, an 11-5 win. They've won their last three games, all one-goal games, after dropping two to top-10 teams. Junior Olivia Hompe has scored 29 goals and chipped in eight assists for 37 points. Behind here is sophomore Abby Finkelston with 17 points on 14 goals and senior Anya Gersoff with 15 points on 13 goals. Sophomore Colby Chanenchuk has a team-high 11 assists and chips in three goals for 14 points. Sophomore Ellie McNulty who has 12 points also as won the most draws, 14 total, while Gersoff has pulled in 10. Defenders Amanda Leavell and Liz Bannantine have caused the most turnovers at 15 and 14 and they also contribute 16 and 17 ground balls. Only goalie Ellie DeGarmo has more with 21. DeGarmo owns a .548 save percentage and an 8.64 goals against average.
The Series
Princeton has won the last eight meetings with Yale and holds a 27-14-1 record in the all-time series. Nine of those 14 losses were just one-goal losses. The Bulldogs last win was a one-goal game in 2007.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale is coming off of a 15-11 loss to Boston College on Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 5-6 on the season, though they are 2-1 in the Ivy League. Yale has defeated Brown and Columbia, both at home, with a loss at Cornell in the league opener in early March. Yale is averaging 8.73 goals per game and 21 shots per game. Junior Tess McEvoy leads the offense with 30 goals and eight assists, while classmate Hope Hanley has 13 goals and seven helpers. Senior Lauren Wackerle adds 15 points, while sophomore Lily Smith chips in 12. Nicole Daniggelis has been dominate in the draw control circle with 67 wins - that's 48 percent of her team total. Defenders Kate Walker and Cooper Hall are both in double digits in caused turnovers with 14 and 11, respectively and they are two of the top three in ground balls as well. Sophomore Sydney Marks has started in all 11 games in goal and has a .467 save percentage and a 9.54 goals against average.
