Men's Soccer Tops FDU 3-1
September 24, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Senior defender Patrick Barba's first career goal was the game-winning goal, as the Princeton men's soccer team won its fourth straight game with a 3-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
The Tigers had goals from three different goal scorers, and each goal was as good as the next.
Senior Greg Seifert tallied his third goal of the season in the 19th minute to give Princeton the lead. It was the first of two goals that came off of corner kicks, this one taken by Bryan Windsor. Windsor sent the ball into the box to Mark Romanowski who centered the ball to Seifert. The lead, however, was short lived as FDU answered just 17 seconds later. Romanowski just missed the ball with an outstretched leg and Enver Caymaz jumped on the opportunity and beat Josh Haberman one-on-one.
Barba's goal was a header off of a Matthew Mangini corner in the 78th minute. The ball launched into the box where it was redirected by the back of Seifert before Barba got his head on it and buried it for the lead.
Freshman Benjamin Martin added insurance and showed the crowd why he was named this week's Ivy League Player of the Week when he did all the work on his own in the 83rd minute. He brought the ball in from midfield, getting by two defenders, grabbing his own blocked shot and putting it past netminder Sebastian Ferreira after he bobbled the ball.
Princeton outshot FDU 16-13 and took four more corners, 8-4.
Haberman earned his fourth win of the season with four saves, while Ferreira stopped two shots for the Knights.
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Villanova. It marks the final non-conference game before the Ivy League calendar begins on Saturday, Oct. 1 with Princeton hosting Dartmouth.
