Three Hat Tricks Help No. 11 Men's Water Polo over Wagner, 14-10

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 11 Princeton men's water polo team continued its hot streak as it downed the Wagner Seahawks, 14-10 during day one of the Princeton Invitational tonight at DeNunzio Pool.
Three different Tigers scored hat tricks led by sophomore Matt Payne's six-point night. Payne added three assists as did senior Jovan Jeremic. Freshman Sean Duncan added four drawn ejections while freshman Davis Wachtell had a team-high two blocks. In his season debut, Vojislav Mitrovic made eight saves in the victory.
Mitrovic came up with three stops in the first period as the Tigers shut out the Seahawks, 5-0. Princeton showed a balanced offensive attack in the first eight minutes as five Tigers registered tallies. The home team continued to press forward, expanding its lead to 7-1 before Wagner cut its deficit to 8-4 at halftime.
Wagner showed some life as it ended the third stanza with four of five goals to set the score at 11-8. The Seahawks got within three on two occasions in the closing quarter but Duncan's goal with 4:46 to go solidified the Tigers' fourth straight win.
The toughest part of the water polo's team schedule will now kick into high gear as Princeton will take on No. 3 nationally ranked Cal., tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. and No. 15 Air Force at 6 p.m. The Tigers also battle No. 20 Santa Clara (11:45 a.m.) on Saturday and have a big ESPNU showdown vs. No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 12 p.m.
