Career Effort By Ibe Powers Volleyball Past Dartmouth, Into First-Place Showdown vs Harvard
October 06, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
Junior Nnenna Ibe came into Friday night playing some of the best volleyball of her career, but she took it to another level against Dartmouth. Ibe powered a career-high 17 kills on only 21 swings, hit .762 for the night, and added four blocks and two digs in a 3-1 win over the Big Green.
The victory, combined with Harvard's 3-2 win over Penn at the Palestra, sets up a showdown of Ivy League unbeatens Saturday at 5 pm in Dillon Gym. Both the Tigers and Crimson, who shared the 2015 Ivy title before Princeton's outright win last year, are 4-0 in league play this season; the match will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
Ibe had hit .500 or better in five of Princeton's last six matches, but with kill totals ranging from five to seven. Against Dartmouth, she reached five kills by the end of the first set and never stopped swinging away. After the Tigers let a late lead slip away in the opening set, they overpowered Dartmouth over the last three sets and hit above .380 in each.
While Ibe may have been the most spectacular performer for Princeton, she wasn't the only productive Tiger. Sophomore Devon Peterkin had 13 kills and five digs, while Maggie O'Connell added 10 kills and three blocks. Reigning Ivy League Player of the Week Jessie Harris paced the offense with 54 assists, and she added 13 digs and five kills on only seven swings. Middle Caroline Sklaver added 11 kills, while the defensive duo of Lauren Flaming (14) and Maddie Huber (12) combined for 26 of Princeton's 58 digs.
