Women's Swimming & Diving Gets Strong Test In Final Meet Before Ivy Season Begins

The Princeton women's swimming and diving team faced a strong test this weekend against a pair of nationally ranked opponents in its final meet before Ivy season opens. The Tigers fell 295-75 to 10th-ranked Louisville, and they fell 302-68 to 16th-ranked Virginia.
Freshman Courtney Tseng opened Friday's individual events when she took eighth in the 500 free and dropped nearly six full seconds off her seed time in the process (4:57.28), and she added a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM later Friday in 4:25.
Joanna Curry (2:06.62) and Jenny Ma (2:06.98) both had Top-10 finishes in the 200 IM, and Ma came back for a sixth-place finish in the 100 breast in 1:04.08. Senior tri-captain Maddy Veith went 24.37 in the 50 free, while junior Isabel Reis took seventh in the 100 fly in 55.72.
Elaina Gu (1:53.76) and Lauren McGrath (1:54.63) both had Top-10 finishes in the 200 free, while freshman Stephanie Nelson added an eighth-place finish in the 100 back (56.58).
Tseng opened Saturday's final session by taking seventh in the mile in 17:25.37, while Nelson dropped more than a second off her seed time to take sixth in the 200 back (2:01.43). Alisabeth Marsteller finished ninth in the 100 free in 52.15, while Ma took eighth in the 200 breast in 2:19.83.
Curry, a junior tri-captain, ended the individual events with a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly (2:02.76).
Freshman diver Sophia Peifer had a strong weekend, which started with a third-place finish in the 1-meter event (262.85), and included a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter event (284.85). Fellow freshman Sine Scribbick took fifth in the 3-meter (280.90), while sophomore Natasha MacManus finished fourth in the 1-meter event with 262.00 points.
Princeton will now turn its attention to the Ivy League season, which opens Saturday at noon in Philadelphia with a tri-meet against both Cornell and Penn.
