UC-San Diego Holds Off Volleyball Team In 3-1 Win
February 01, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
Despite a balanced offensive attack — four Tigers had between 11 and 13 kills — the Princeton men's volleyball team dropped its second match in California Wednesday night. UC-San Diego improved to 3-5 on the year with a 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21 win over the Tigers, who fell to 2-4.
Princeton received another strong performance from its freshman class, especially the outside-hitting duo of Parker Dixon and Greg Luck. Each player had 13 kills; Dixon hit .417 for the match, while Luck shared the team high with nine digs. Classmate George Huhmann continues to find his rhythm as well, as he added 11 kills, three digs, three aces and a block in the match.
Both Kendall Ratter (12 kills, nine digs) and Junior Oboh (nine kills, three blocks, .538 attack percentage) also posted strong performances in the match, while senior setter Jonah May continues to find chemistry with his hitters following an early-season injury. May had 54 assists in the match and helped Princeton hit .380 overall.
Defensively, the Tigers just didn't have enough answers for UC-San Diego, which hit .430 for the match and got a 21-kill performance from Tanner Syftestad.
Princeton concludes its California trip Friday with a 7 pm PT match against Concordia.
