Volleyball Drops California Finale, Eyes EIVA Home Opener
February 04, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
Freshman middle George Huhmann gave several glimpses into why he was such a highly touted prospect Friday night at Concordia, but Princeton was unable to come up with the big final points in a 3-0 loss at Concordia that ended the Tigers' California trip.
Huhmann recorded a season-best 13 kills and added three blocks, but the Tigers fell to 2-5 with the 25-20, 25-22, 26-24 loss at Concordia (8-6). Junior Kendall Ratter added nine kills, while freshman outsides Parker Dixon and Greg Luck both had five kills apiece. Senior Jonah May paced the offense with 33 assists, while Ratter added a match-high four assists.
Princeton was there in each of the three sets, including a finale that went into extra points. A kill by Dixon fended off one match point, but the hosts got a kill and a block to clinch the 26-24 win.
The Tigers will return home this week to open EIVA competition, and they will do with a formidable home pair. On Friday, Princeton hosts Saint Francis, which last season became the first team to eliminate Penn State in the EIVA playoffs since Princeton did so in 1998, at 7 pm. The next night, Princeton welcomes 13th-ranked Penn State for a 7 pm showdown in what is regularly the most packed crowd at Dillon Gym.
Both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
