Monica McGrath, Olivia Chan and Maddy Veith each made their respective 'A' finals Thursday night to help the Princeton women's swimming & diving team move past Brown into third place at the 2017 Ivy League Championships.
McGrath opened Thursday's finals session by taking sixth in the 500 free relay in 4:49.64, while teammate Claire McIlmail added a Top-10 finish in 4:51.50. That event would be the first individual swimming event of the session, and Chan would follow it up with a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM. After missing the 'A' final at the 2016 Ivy Championships, Chan returned to the championship final for the third time in her four years and posted a time of 2:01.95. Freshman teammate Christie Chong had a strong showing in the 'B' final, as she posted a season-best time of 2:02.75.

Junior tri-captain Maddy Veith finished the individual swimming portion of the meet with a seventh-place finish in the 50 free. She went 22.97, topping her Princeton-best of 22.99 from the previous season — which was the fifth-fastest time in school history.
The top diving performance for Princeton Thursday came from sophomore Carolyn MacFarlane, who finished 12th with a score of 233.05. Senior teammate Yasmeen Almog added a 15th-place finish of 219.75 in her second career 'B' final at an Ivy League championship meet.
The quartet of Lindsay Temple, Veith, Katie Diller, and Isabel Reis closed the session with a seventh-place finish in the 200 free relay. Led by Veith's split of 22.65, the Tigers finished in 1:33.19.
Princeton has more swims ahead of it than either Harvard or Yale, but it also has a significant deficit to make up over the final two days. Reigning Ivy League champion Harvard leads the meet with 560.5 points, while Ivy dual meet champion Yale stands second with 555 points. Princeton is currently third with 323 points, but a deeper set of 'A' and 'B' finalists helped the Tigers move past host Brown, which is fourth with 288 points.
Friday's preliminary session will begin at 11 am, and finals will begin at 6 pm. The order of events is below.
