After Delay, Hompe's Six Lead Princeton Past Virginia
February 25, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
First there was rain and thunder and lightning and even hail.
After that was finished, there was Olivia Hompe.
As much a force of nature as anything else that fell in Charlottesville Saturday afternoon, Hompe was basically unstoppable for the Princeton women's lacrosse team, scoring six goals and leading the Tigers past Virginia 17-10. The win was the second straight for Princeton to start the young season, and the Tigers have now scored 36 goals in those two games, of which 10 have been scored by Hompe.
The game against Virginia was delayed by more than four hours due to the wild weather in the area. It would prove to be well worth the wait for Princeton, who would never trail and would be tied only at 1-1 and 3-3.
Of the 17 goals, a total of 14 came from just three players. In addition to Hompe's six, Princeton would get four each from Tess D'Orsi and Colby Chanenchuk, who would also have three assists for a seven-point day.
Hompe now has 133 career goals, which leaves her in ninth place all-time at Princeton. She now has 187 career points, which are also ninth all-time in program history.
Ellie DeGarmo, a first-team All-America a year ago, made 13 saves in goal for Princeton.
The Tigers return to Sherrerd Field Wednesday to host Loyola.
