The Princeton men's lacrosse team lost by 10 a year ago on Sherrerd Field in its Ivy League opener. So where can the Tigers look for inspiration on trying to reverse that this year?
How about back a few weeks, to its own experiences against Johns Hopkins.
Princeton fell 20-10 to Penn 52 weeks ago, in a game Penn led for the final 59:35, including 9-1 five minutes into the second quarter. Is there carry over into this year?
The last time Princeton played an opponent that had beaten it by 10 a year ago, there was a 21-goal swing in the rematch. That was against Johns Hopkins, whom Princeton lost to in 2016 by a 17-7 score and then beat 18-7 in 2017.
If Princeton can reverse a 10-goal loss from last year for the second time this year, then it'll get its first Ivy win four weeks earlier than it did a year ago. If Penn does not allow that to happen, then the Quakers will have beaten Princeton in consecutive years for the first time since 1988 and 1989.

Princeton will be playing for the second time in four days after having eight days off. The Tigers lost 16-11 Wednesday night at Rutgers, in a game that was delayed for 24 hours because of the winter storm in midweek.
Princeton is 4-2 on the season. The two teams to beat Princeton - Hofstra and Rutgers - are a combined 12-0.

Princeton played six games against other colleges (and three against lacrosse clubs) in the 1928 season, and five were against teams Princeton is playing in 2017 - Rutgers, Lehigh, Cornell, Yale and Penn. The only college team Princeton played in 1928 that it is not playing this season was Maryland, whom Princeton most recently played a year ago.
The 1928 meeting was the first between the Tigers and the Quakers. Princeton leads the all-time series 65-19.

Austin Sims and Zach Currier were added to the Tewaaraton Trophy watchlist Thursday.
Sims leads Princeton with 16 goals, of which 14 have come in the last three games. Sims also did not play in Princeton's loss to Hofstra.
Currier's offensive line includes nine goals and 12 assists, not to mention nearly 60 percent face-off winning percentage and 50 grounds balls, or 39 more than any other player on the team. Other than Currier, the last Princeton player to have double figures in ground balls in a game was John Cunningham in 2010. Currier has done it three times in six games this season.
Sims was the Division I Player of the Week after his six-goal performance against Hopkins and Ivy Player of the Week this past week, after he scored six more against Quinnipiac. He also had the Division I Play of the Week with his spin move through three Hopkins player and subsequent rocket into the goal. Currier was the Ivy League Player of the Week after the Hopkins game.

MIchael Sowers is Princeton's leading scorer with 31 points (14G, 17A), nine more than second-place Gavin McBride. The last Princeton freshman to lead the team in scoring was Tom Schreiber in 2011.
Sowers, through just six games, is already tied for third for the most assists by a Princeton freshman and is seventh in points by a Princeton freshman. He has had at least four points in every game this year, including three goals and two assists against Rutgers Wednesday night.
Sowers, with his 17 assists, is tied with Ryan Ambler and Jon Hess for third. Ahead are only Kevin Lowe (43) and Ryan Boyle (37). Lowe's 55 points are also the freshman record.
At his current pace, Sowers would finish the regular season with 32 goals (Princeton freshman record is 28) and 40 assists, for a total of 72 points. The Princeton single-season record for any player for points is 78, set two years ago by Mike MacDonald. Only two Princeton players have ever had at least 30 goals and 30 assists in the same season - MacDonald in 2015 (48G, 30A) and Dave Tickner in 1976 (32G, 34A).
Sowers leads the Ivy League and ranks fourth in Division I in assists per game. He's also seventh in D1 and third in the Ivy League in points per game.

Bear Goldstein had three caused turnovers against Rutgers and is tied for the team lead with Zach Currier, with six each.
Gavin McBride has at least one point in every game since the start of his sophomore year, a streak of 34 straight games. He also has at least one goal in 15 straight games.
Goldstein and McBride are the two Princeton captains.

Freshman Chase Williams is the only Princeton shortstick defensive midfielder to play in all six games. Williams is a walk-on from the football team, which won the Ivy League championship this past fall.

Princeton leads the Ivy League in both man-up offense and man-down defense.
