Princeton Heads To Reigning EIVA Champ George Mason In Wild Final Sprint
April 06, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
EIVA LINKS: Standings l League Leaders
WEEKEND LINKS: Live Video l Live Stats
Here are two things you can say with a fair amount of confidence about the EIVA postseason, which is now only two weeks away:
1) Penn State will be in it.
2) Charleston won't be in it.
That leaves six teams battling for three postseason spots, and only loss separates the full group.
It's about to get crazy in the EIVA.
Princeton (10-12, 6-5 EIVA) will play its final regular-season road game of the season Saturday night at 7 pm against reigning league champion George Mason (12-11, 5-5). Mason will open the weekend the night before against NJIT (13-9, 6-5), meaning three of the teams in contention will battle for position in Fairfax, Va.
The Tigers will look to bounce back from a pair of heartbreakers last weekend. They had a match ball in the fifth set at Penn State before falling 19-17 in the finale, and they dropped a 15-13 fifth set the following day to Saint Francis to lose most of its margin of error that came from Princeton's early-season victories. However, head coach Sam Shweisky has been energized by the quality of play recently, a stretch that began with a four-set match at #3 BYU.
Princeton can clinch a season sweep at George Mason with a win Saturday; the Tigers posted a 3-1 win in Dillon Gym earlier this season, thanks in part to a 13-kill effort from Parker Dixon that helped him earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors.
