July 18, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
Recent Princeton hockey graduate Ben Foster '17 will play his first professional season next year in the United Kingdom as a member of the Milton Keynes Lightning.
The team begins preseason in just six weeks for the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).
Foster played in 115 career games at Princeton and totaled 31 points on 16 goals and 15 assists. A four-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection, Foster played in 33 games as a senior and had four goals and three assists, with six of those points coming against nationally ranked opponents. He scored the game-winning goal over No. 19 Minnesota State in December and the game winner against No. 4 Penn State in January at the Wells Fargo Center. Foster also had an assist in a 4-1 win at No. 10 Bemidji State, an assist at No. 7 Union in February and another against the No. 6 ranked Dutchmen in the ECAC quarterfinal series.
Invited to the New York Rangers Development Camp in 2012, Foster was named a "player to watch" in the NHL Central Scouting report prior to the 2011 NHL Draft.

Lightning Head Coach Pete Russell is full of enthusiasm for the qualities that Ben will bring to the team: "I'm delighted to add this hungry NCAA forward to our line up for the coming season. Ben is a strong skater with a decent skill set and plays with energy. He can can play either on the wing or in centre and is a 200 ft player. He has good size and uses it well while forechecking, in the corners and going to the net. He's a really smart player and finds good spots."
A native of Darien, Conn., and an alum of Choate Rosemary Hall, Foster will be the second player from the Nutmeg state on the Lightning roster along with Matt Nickerson (Clarkson '04).
