Hompe Named Conference Nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year
August 01, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton women's lacrosse All-America Olivia Hompe was announced as one of 145 student-athletes nominated by conferences for consideration for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year. Hompe was one of the record number 543 of school nominees last month.
A finalist for the 2017 Tewaaraton Trophy, Hompe finished her career as the all-time leader at Princeton in goals (198) and points (285), more than any other women's or men's lacrosse player in Princeton history.
A two-time Tewaaraton nominee, Hompe is a three-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection and the 2017 Ivy League Attacker of the Year. She was named to the Ivy League all-tournament team three times and was the MVP once, and she holds six tournament records. Hompe led the nation in 2017 in goals per game and finished third in points per game, when she also set the Princeton single-season records for goals and points in a season. An Inside Lacrosse All-America, Hompe was named the 2017 IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Last week, Hompe was named the Player of the Match in the FIL World Cup bronze medal game, as she and Team England defeated Australia 10-9. Down three goals, Hompe scored three straight goals to tie the game with 2:22 remaining.
The Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees in early September, 10 from each division. At the end of September, the selection committee will select and announce nine finalists, with three from each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year from those finalists.Â
