August 23, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
Kyle Rankin '16 has agreed to terms with the Orlando Solar Bears of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for the 2017-18 season.
"Kyle was considered one of the leaders in the locker room on his team in Elmira last season, even as a first-year pro," Solar Bears head coach Drake Berehowsky said. "He likes to feed the puck to his teammates and does a lot of the detailed things the right way."
Rankin spent his first full season playing with the now-defunct Elmira Jackals in 2016-17. He scored six goals, added 17 assists and took 61 penalty minutes in 68 games while serving as an alternate captain. Rankin signed with Brampton Beast after his Princeton playing career was complete in 2016.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the Solar Bears this season," Rankin said. "Orlando has consistently excelled both on and off the ice, and I am thrilled to be a part of the culture the team has developed. I can't wait to get to work with my teammates and the coaching staff in the fall and meet the great fans in Orlando!"
Rankin played in 117 career games as a Tiger scoring 10 goals and 21 assists. A three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree, Rankin graduated with a degree in history. He was team captain in 2015-16, and an assistant captain in 2014-15.
