Sailer and Five Tigers To Be Honored As WPLL Legends

BALTIMORE, Md. (9/16/17) -Â Head coach Chris Sailer, Rachael (Becker) DeCecco '03, Amory Rowe Salem '95, Crista Samaras '99, Lauren Simone Farrell '02 and Kim Simons Tortolani '94 are among the 80 lacrosse legends that will be honored at the Women's Professional Lacrosse League Legends' Celebration and Legends' Game at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland on Saturday, Sept. 30.
A member of the US National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, head coach Chris Sailer coached Princeton to three national championships in 1994, 2002 and 2003. Sailer has guided her teams to 24 NCAA Tournament appearances in 31 years, and well as 13 Ivy League titles. She ranks second in the NCAA in coaching victories with 386 and a 71.7 win percentage.
Becker DeCecco is still known as the only defender to ever win the Tewaaraton Trophy - male or female, earning the award in 2003. She was a two-time finalist for the award in 2002 and 2003 as the Tigers won national championships both seasons. Simone Farrell was teammates with Becker in 2002, when she was named the MVP of the national championship as a two-time first-team All-America. Simone ranks seventh all-time in Princeton with 205 career points.
A three-time first-team All-America and a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year, Samaras held the Princeton record in scoring for 18 years with 270 career points and 189 goals. Samaras was a member of both the 2001 and 2005 World Cup teams.
Simons Tortolani and Rowe Salem were both on the 1994 national championship team. Rowe is a three-time first-team All-America and ranks ninth all-time at Princeton with 194 career points. She won a World Cup with USA in 1997.
Simons also earned three All-America honors during her career as well. She later was the head coach at Georgetown, taking the Hoyas to three final fours, and was head coach of the USA Under-19 Team.
Part of the WPLL's Exhibition Weekend, the Legends' Celebration is an opportunity for the WPLL to pay homage to the many players and coaches that helped pave the way for women's lacrosse. All individuals being honored are invited to participate in the 2017 Legends' Game at 12:30 p.m. Immediately following the Legends' Game, will be the first WPLL Exhibition Game at 2 p.m.
