Fort Wayne Knocks Off Princeton 3-0

Despite 10 kills from George Huhmann, the Princeton men's volleyball team didn't have enough answers defensively to fight off Fort Wayne Friday night in the Tigers' home opener. The Mastadons improved to 3-0 on the young season after hitting .522 in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 victory over the Tigers, who fell to 1-5 with the loss.
Huhmann, the reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year, had 10 kills and a pair of blocks, while classmate Greg Luck added five kills and three digs. Freshman Cade Keegan, whose older brother Michael was the starting setter for Fort Wayne, recorded seven digs in his Dillon Gym debut, while classmate Joe Kelly had 23 assists in his home debut. Three freshmen saw time in their first match at Princeton; the third was Jess Hunt, who had two kills and two digs.
Fort Wayne, which plays at NJIT Saturday night, was able to grab early leads in all three sets, and they used their efficient hitting to keep Princeton off balance the rest of the match.
Princeton will now break for finals, and will return to competition at the end of the month to face a trio of strong California teams, opening with UCSD on Jan. 31. Princeton will also face UCLA and Pepperdine on that trip.
