David Tickner Inducted Into Baltimore Chapter Of The US Lacrosse Hall Of Fame
January 15, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
David Tickner Feature From 2007
If you take the 50 points that David Tickner scored on the Princeton men's lacrosse freshman team back in 1974 and add them to the 163 he scored in his three varsity seasons, then you get a number that only three players in program history have ever beaten.
Tickner, one of the greatest and most versatile scorers ever to play at Princeton, was inducted into the Baltimore Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame Saturday night. In being selected, the chapter recognized him for his performance at Princeton and for his days at the Gilman School, where his father taught for more than 40 years and where there is a Tickner Writing Center.
Tickner ranked second all-time in points at Princeton when he graduated, and he still ranks 11th, even without counting the points as a freshman. His 94 career goals are tied for 16th, and his 69 assists are tied for 12th.
Princeton's first-ever three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, Tickner was also a three-time All-America, as an attackman his sophomore and junior years and then again as a senior after moving to midfield.
His junior year of 1976 saw him score 34 goals and add 32 assists, which made him the first player in program history ever to have at least 30 goals and 30 assists in a season. In fact, he was the only player to do so until 2015, when Mike MacDonald had 48 goals and 30 assists, and then last year, when Michael Soweres had 41 goals and 40 assists.
The induction ceremony was held at the Hillendale Country Club. Any member of a regional chapter Hall of Fame is now eligible for the full US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
