Princeton Opens Asics Invitational Friday vs. #2 Long Beach State, Will Face Three Ranked Teams
January 04, 2018 | Men's Volleyball
After a strong season debut against 12th-ranked USC on Tuesday, the Princeton men's volleyball team heads to Santa Barbara, Calif., this weekend to take on a trio of teams ranked even higher. That stretch starts Friday at 10 am PT (1 pm ET) against the second-ranked 49ers of Long Beach State, and will continue with a Friday showdown (8 pm PT) against eighth-ranked Stanford and a Saturday match (12 pm PT) with 11th-ranked Cal-State Northridge.
Live stats for the Cal-State Northridge match will be here; should either the Long Beach State or Stanford matches be available for live stats, they will be posted on the volleyball twitter feed @PrincetonVolley.
Princeton opened its season without captain and All-EIVA middle Junior Oboh, but it pushed the Trojans through four tough sets before ultimately falling 3-1 on the Pac-12 Network. Reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year George Huhmann was spectacular in his first match of the season, recording 20 kills, four blocks and four digs against USC. Classmate Parker Dixon, who became the second Tiger in program history to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors last season, added 14 kills and seven digs.
The matches will complete a challenging opening week for the Tigers, who will return to Princeton next week for its home debut on Friday, Jan. 12, against IPFW in a match streamed live on the Ivy League Network. Following that match, Princeton will break for finals, and then will return to California for three matches, including two more against Top-10 competition (#4 UCLA, #10 Pepperdine).
