No. 13 Princeton Finishes Off West Coast Trip At No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer

POMONA, Calif. – The No. 13 Princeton Tigers finish off their California trip with a contest vs. the No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at Haldeman Pool on Wednesday evening.
Princeton sits at 14-9 overall and 1-3 on its current road trip. The Tigers lost a close battle vs. No. 10 UC-San Diego before rebounding with a 15-12 victory over Whittier last Saturday (Oct. 27). The next day, head coach Dustin Litvak's group dropped a 12-8 decision to No. 20 Loyola Marymount and a 16-8 matchup vs. No. 7 Pepperdine. The Tigers wrap up the regular season on Sunday (Nov. 4) against St. Francis-Brooklyn (12 p.m.) and Iona (6 p.m.) at DeNunzio Pool.
Matt Payne leads the team with 60 goals and 84 points in 2018. He's been outstanding on the team's trip to the West Coast, posting 13 goals including matching his personal best with seven tallies vs. Whittier. The senior is nine shy of his career high for goals in a season and now has 225 total. He's seventh all-time, 29 short of John Stover's '06 program record of 254.
Princeton has had a balanced offensive attack with six other players registering at least 20 goals this season. Ryan Wilson is third on the squad with 27, but also has a team-best 38 helpers. His 210 career assists are the most all-time. The Class of 2022 has been vital for the Tigers this season as Keller Maloney, Wyatt Benson and Mitchell Cooper have combined for 65 goals. Maloney is the only player on the team with at least 20 goals, 20 assists, 20 steals and 20 drawn ejections. Benson leads the group with 55 drawn ejections. Ryan Melosini and Billy Motherway have shared time at the goalie position, combining for a .517 save percentage.
Pomona-Pitzer is 17-8 overall and 10-0 in the SCIAC. The Sagehens had their six-game winning streak come to a close with a loss to Cal. Baptist on Saturday. Pomona-Pitzer has six players with at least 20 goals, highlighted by Adam Ward and Sam Sasaki's 34 tallies leading the way. (Stats as of Oct. 24).
