Princeton Pushes #1 Trinity In NYC, But Falls 6-3

The Princeton men's squash team nearly pulled off the upset of the opening month of the season Saturday at the University Club in New York City, but the Trinity Bantams had enough answers to pull out a 6-3 victory over eighth-ranked Princeton.
Princeton freshman Howe Cheng got the Tigers on the board early with an impressive 3-0 win at the #6 position; he used tight wins of 12-10 and 13-11 to claim a 3-0 win over Will Curtis to hand the Tigers an early win. Classmate Daelum Mawji did everything in his power to grab a second win, as he battled back from a 2-0 deficit at the #3 spot with consecutive 11-8 wins to even the match against Thoboki Moholo, but the Trinity veteran was able to pull out the fifth game to give Trinity a 2-1 edge. Trinity added two more in the second shift, but Princeton sophomore Alex Engstrom grabbed wins of 14-12, 11-8 and, after a loss in the third, 11-9 to win at #5 and keep Princeton alive.
Junior captain Gabriel Morgan had a remarkable performance at the #7 spot to give Princeton a third win. He trailed 2-1 before fighting for wins of 12-10 and 11-8 to secure his win, but Trinity grabbed wins at #1 and #4 to take the win.
Princeton will make its home debut Sunday against George Washington, which will immediately follow the women's match; it is scheduled to start at 3 pm.
