Sowers Named Preseason First-Team All-America; Baughan Also Honored

Michael Sowers ended last season as the leading scorer in Division I, with the highest assists per game total in 31 years. Not surprisingly, he starts the new season considered among the country's absolute best.
Sowers, a junior attackman, was named a preseason first-team All-America by Inside Lacrosse magazine as part of its 2019 season previews. George Baughan, a sophomore defenseman, was named an honorable mention All-America.
In addition, Inside Lacrosse also ranked Princeton 14th in the preseason. The Tigers will enter the 2019 season with the longest active winning streak in Division I after having won their final final five games of 2018.
Sowers set the Princeton record for points in a season with 82 as a freshman and then broke his own record with 83 a year ago, when he also set the school record for assists inn a season with 56. He led Division I in assists per game and points per game, and his 4.31 assists per game were the seventh-best total in Division I history and the best since 1987.
After just 28 career games, Sowers already ranks fifth all-time at Princeton in assists and 10th all-time at Princeton in scoring. He already has 165 career points, leaving him 35 away from becoming the seventh player in program history to reach 200 and 82 points - or basically what he's averaged through two years - away from tying Kevin Lowe's school career record, which turns 25 years old in 2019.
Baughan made quite a name for himself in just 11 games a year ago, which included nine starts, after missing the first two due to injury. Baughan led the Ivy League in caused turnovers per game and was a National Player of the Week once while also earning second-team All-Ivy honors.
