Eye on the Tigers
For the second consecutive season Princeton will open the season against Temple. The Tigers are ranked No. 9 in the preseason IWLCA poll and No. 13 in the Cascade Media poll. Princeton won its 13 Ivy League title and fourth straight last year, won the Ivy League Tournament and earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament en route to an NCAA quarterfinal appearance. The Tigers lost two first-team All-Americas but do return their core midfield, 65 percent of their scoring and have three goalkeepers ready to step up. Senior Colby Chanenchuk is back after her 52-point season last year in which she totaled 38 assists. Sophomore Tess D'Orsi scored the second-most goals on the team with 38 goals and added 13 assists for a 51-point freshman season. Midfielders Elizabeth George, Ellie McNulty and Kathryn Hallett each had 30+ points a year ago. George and McNulty had more than 30 draw controls apiece last year. Senior Camille Sullivan and sophomore Alex Argo have the best numbers in terms of returning ground balls and caused turnovers. Princeton also brings in the No. 2 ranked recruiting class that includes the 2017 US Lacrosse Player of the Year in Kyla Sears.
The Series
Princeton holds a 21-9 advantage in the all-time series with Temple. Last year was the first time the teams had meet in five seasons, with the Tigers taking a 19-3 game at Class of 1952 Stadium in the season opener.
Scouting the Owls
Temple is 2-0 on the season after opening with a 12-8 win over Rutgers a week ago Saturday and then followed up with an 18-7 victory at Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Kira Gensler and sophomore Olivia Thompson add five points apiece. Defensively Senior Nicole Latgis has caused four turnovers, won eight draws and has seven ground balls. Sophomore Maryn Lowell has started both games in goal and has a .576 save percentage and a 7.99 goals against average, with 19 saves and 14 goals allowed.
