Ed Calkins Honored With US Lacrosse Foundation Distinguished Service Award
March 01, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
His contributions to Princeton lacrosse and the sport in general did not stop with graduation though. Calkins, one of the most loyal alums the program has ever known, has been a huge supporter of Princeton's team for more than 25 years, and he currently serves as the president of the Friends of Princeton Lacrosse.
Beyond that, he has been active in lacrosse both in Florida, where he has helped to grow the sport on every level there, and on the national level, where he has worked with US Lacrosse on many initiatives.
Calkins was recently honored by the US Lacrosse Foundation with its William (Dinty) Moore Distinguished Service Award. Calkins is the current vice chair of the US Lacrosse Board of Directors and is the former chair of the US Lacrosse Foundation.
From the US Lacrosse story:
Locally, he has served on the board of the Collier County Lacrosse Association and the Florida Interscholastic Associates Lacrosse League while coaching youth lacrosse and hosting camps.
On a national level, he was a board member of the US Lacrosse Foundation from 2008 to 2015, serving as chair from 2010 to 2015. He was also co-chair of the National Campaign for Lacrosse, a successful capital campaign which led to the construction of the new US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
"Ed's leadership is transformative," said Gordon Cooney, who succeeded him as chair of the US Lacrosse Foundation board. "He worked tirelessly to help drive the campaign forward, including significant travel to cultivate and secure investments from countless donors throughout the country. As the USLF board chair, he was instrumental in forging closer working relationships between the USL and USLF Boards, which will serve US Lacrosse well for years to come."
