Leading by just two at the half, No. 16 Loyola used a second-half surge to defeat No. 14 Princeton, 13-7 on Ridley Field Saturday afternoon.

Princeton (3-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead with juniors Nonie Anderson, Elizabeth George and Kathryn Hallett each scoring. Senior goalkeeper Mary Kate McDonough was solid, stopping all four shots she faced from free play, with the first two goals allowed being free-position goals.

The Greyhounds' first goal not to be scored on the arc came from freshman Livy Rosenzweig, that tied the game at 3-3 at 10:23. A third eight-meter goal and another from Hannah Powers two minutes later gave Loyola (3-2) its first lead of the game, 5-3, at 7:35.

It was a full team effort on the Tigers next goal as Hallett forced a turnover, grabbed the ground ball and fed junior Allie Rogers for the quick clear down the field. Rogers found freshman Kyla Sears for her 17th goal of the season at 5:04.

Elli Kluegel got a ground ball after a McDonough save and buried the second-chance effort and Taylor VanThof scored her first of three as Loyola took a 7-4 edge over the next three minutes.

With one second left in the half, Hallett dished to sophomore Annie Cory on the doorstep for the quick and final strike of the first.

Loyola's Kady Glynn came up big in the second half, as Princeton outshot Loyola 17-12 but was held to just two goals as Glynn made nine saves. On the other end the Greyhounds went on a 5-1 run to take their largest lead, 12-6 with 10:23 remaining.

McDonough exited the game with eight saves, and was replaced by freshman Sam Fish. Twenty seconds later the Tigers were dealt another blow with the second yellow card on George, who was leading the team in shots.

Sears' second goal of the afternoon came on a free-position attempt at 2:03 to cut it to a 12-7 deficit but Kamely added her third 33 seconds later for the final tally of the game.

Loyola won the draw control battle, 15-6 while Princeton had a 25-18 edge in ground balls and caused four more turnovers, 11-7.

Hallett and Sears each scored two goals and added one assist. Junior Alex Argo had three caused turnovers and a game-high five ground balls, while Fish stopped two of the three shots she faced.

VanThof, Kluegel and Kamely each had three goal games, while Powers had two goals and two assists. VanThof had a game-high seven draws and Rosenzweig had six. Glynn made 13 saves in net.

Princeton will be back in action on Monday, March 19 as it makes it return to Penn State. Game time is at 4 p.m.
