Princeton Volleyball Team Faces MIVA Pair Over Spring Break
March 20, 2018 | Men's Volleyball
The streaking men's volleyball team, winners of five straight matches, will break from EIVA play during its spring break week and head to the midwest this week to face a pair of MIVA squads. Princeton (6-11, 5-4 EIVA) will open the week Tuesday night at 7 pm local (8 pm ET) in St. Charles, Mo., against Lindenwood, and then will head to Lebanon, Ill., at the end of the week for two matches against McKendree.
Princeton righted its ship over the last three weeks with a critical homestand, when it won four straight matches to jump back into the EIVA mix. The most notable victory was a comeback win over #10 Penn State, when the Tigers saved eight match balls before jumping out in the fifth set of a 15-13 win. A sweep of NJIT in its last two matches moved Princeton above the .500 mark in league play, and they are currently 1.5 matches ahead of both Charleston and Saint Francis for the fourth and final spot in the EIVA playoff race.
Princeton has been led by arguably the league's hottest player, sophomore George Huhmann. The reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year became the third player in league history to sweep Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors following the Saint Francis/Penn State sweep, and he took home Offensive Player of the Week honors for a second straight time following a home-and-home sweep of NJIT. Fellow first-team All-EIVA standout Junior Oboh took home Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording 15 blocks in the NJIT wins.
Princeton will try to keep momentum going this week, starting Tuesday against Lindenwood (8-10, 1-7 MIVA) in the first meeting between the two schools. Lindenwood is 2-1 against EIVA schools this season, including wins over both Sacred Heart and Saint Francis. There will be live video for the Tuesday match here, and live stats will be available here.
The Tigers will then head to Illinois for matches on both Thursday and Friday at 7 pm local (8 pm ET) at McKendree, which has gone 8-10 this season and is in a tight battle for a top-four spot in the league. McKendree, which came to Dillon Gym two years ago and earned a 3-0 victory over Princeton, has a win over Sain Francis this season in its only match against EIVA competition. Live video for both matches will be available here, and live stats will be available here.
