It'll Be Four Tigers, Four Countries, At World Championships
July 10, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men's lacrosse program will be represented by three alums and one current player at the 2018 FIL World Championships, which begin this week in Netanya, Israel.
The first Princetonian to play in the event will be rising sophomore longstick midfielder Andrew Song, who will be playing for China. Song and his teammates begin the tournament Thursday at 9:30 Israeli time, which is 2:30 am Eastern time with the seven-hour time change.
Song made a dramatic impact in his first season as a Tiger, with two goals, 14 caused turnovers and 48 ground balls. He was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after his performance against Virginia, which included a goal, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two face-off wins.
China is playing in the same division with Ireland and Denmark. After playing both of those teams, China's remaining games will be against teams in other divisions.
Princeton also has three players in the top division.
Zach Currier, a 2017 graduate, will be playing for defending World Champion Canada, and he and Tom Schreiber, a 2014 grad, seem headed to a meeting in the championship game this time around as Schreiber represents the United States (as does Princeton team physician Margot Putukian).
Alistair Berven, a classmate of Currier's, is a defenseman for the English team.
Every game in the tournament will be available on an ESPN network, with all games not shown on television available on ESPN+.
