Women's Swimming Welcomes Talented, Versatile Group Of Eight Into Class of 2022
August 03, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
There is no shortage of optimism surrounding the Princeton women's swimming and diving team, especially following an improved showing at the 2018 Ivy League Championships, and the return of three first-team All-Ivy League performers. Head coach Bret Lundgaard believes his first recruiting class should add significantly to that positive energy, while also helping build the foundation for future championship teams.
Lundgaard introduced the Princeton Class of 2022 recently, which includes eight highly touted, versatile swimmers who could make an immediate impact for the Tigers, who will host the 2018 Ivy League Championships at DeNunzio Pool.
The incoming class does not include Sarah Grinalds (22.52, 48.76, 1:45.51), the highly ranked freestyle swimmer from Westport, Conn. Grinalds, considered one of the nation's top recruits by SwimSwam, chose to take a gap year due to a recent shoulder injury sustained right after 2018 YMCA Nationals. She will maintain four full years of eligibility and is expected to be a terrific start to the Princeton Class of 2023.

About Julia
What was the biggest factor(s) in choosing Princeton?
The team and coaching staff for the swim team was huge; I just felt like this group was going to be the most positive asset in making sure that I have a successful college career both in and out of the pool. Princeton also has a very collaborative atmosphere as a university, which I found very valuable.
What is something specific you hope to bring to the team?
I hope to bring a very positive and energetic presence to the team. I'm very loud and I like to have fun no matter what we're doing or how hard it is, so I'm hoping that my energy will help my teammates push themselves harder and have a blast doing it!
What is something unique about yourself?
I can play four instruments — guitar, piano, ukulele and violin!
