Tucker Mizhir Named Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach
September 11, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
Tucker Mizhir to Princeton. Riley Thompson to Culver Military Academy.
Thompson, who was one of Princeton's captains a year ago, is back at Culver, his old Indiana high school, starting his career as an assistant coach. Thompson and Mizhir were briefly on the same staff before Mizhir left Culver, where he has been an assistant coach the last four years, to join Matt Madalon's staff at Princeton.
Mizhir (rhymes with "leisure") takes over for Steve Soriano, who left to become the assistant coach at his alma mater Bellarmine.
"Tucker brings a lot of energy to the program," Madalon said. "He has a ton of great ideas, and he will challenge the rest of the coaching staff and our players every day. We've had a great deal of success with this position in the last few years, and we're very excited about the effect Tucker will have on all of us. Also, at the same time, I'm also very happy for Coach Soriano on his move to Bellarmine, and we want to thank him for everything he did during his year here."
Mizhir will coach Princeton's face-off men and assist with the defense. He joins a staff that will remain otherwise unchanged, with Madalon, offensive coordinator Pat March and defensive coordinator Jeremy Hirsch all back.
Mizhir helped Culver to an 82-12 overall record the last four years, along with the 2017 national championship. He coached basically all aspects of the program, on the field and off, including working with face-offs and goalies while also helping out offensively and defensively. His responsibilities also included rides and clears, transition and early offense, the substitution game and extra-man offense.
Prior to his time at Culver, Mizhir spent a year coaching varsity cross country, basketball and lacrosse at West Nottingham Academy in Maryland. He has also spent nearly a decade coaching club lacrosse.
A native of the Boston area, Mizhir attended St. Mark's School and then Washington & Jefferson outside Pittsburgh, where he majored in history with a concentration in professional writing while earning Dean's List and conference Academic Honor Roll honors. He was also a four-year starter as a shortstick D middie and face-off specialist in lacrosse, and he even played one year of ice hockey.
He will be the fourth volunteer assistant in Madalon's tenure as head coach. In addition to Soriano at Bellarmine. the other two have also moved on to full-time Division I positions, with Justin Tuma now at High Point after a year at Ohio State and Dan Carson at Air Force.
