Sweet 16 Pair Tops Princeton To Close Towson Invitational
September 07, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Despite early challenges by the three-time reigning Ivy champion Tigers, Princeton was unable to pull a big upset Friday during the final day of the 2018 Towson Invitational. Both Missouri, a 2017 NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier, and Ohio State, a 2016 NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier, posted 3-0 wins over the Tigers.
Head coach Sabrina King was able to see her full roster on Friday, as her team played four matches over a 30-hour span. Sophomore Natasha Skov led Princeton in the morning match against Missouri with 10 kills, while middle Nnenna Ibe — who was featured in Episode 2 of "Beyond The Stripes" — added eight kills while hitting .368. Senior Claire Nussbaum paced the offense with 26 assists, while freshman Elena Montgomery had an impressive early performance with eight kills.
Sophomore Clare Lenihan continued her terrific start to the 2018 season with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the nightcap against Ohio State, while both Alexa Underwood and Maggie O'Connell added eight kills apiece. Jessie Harris had a double-double with 33 kills and 11 digs, while freshman Cameron Dames had 19 digs.
Princeton returns to the court Tuesday night for a 7 pm showdown at Seton Hall.
