Princeton picked up its first win over Harvard since 2013 in a 4-2 game tonight at Hobey Baker Rink. It is the first win over the Crimson for the Class of 2019 and the Ron Fogarty coaching staff.
The Tigers got goals from three of their lines and two on the power play. After exchanging goals in the first two periods, the Tigers added two in the third for the win.
After Harvard (6-5-3, 3-4-2) got on the board at 4:45, Princeton (6-10-2, 4-6-1) converted on its first power-play opportunity at 7:17 of the first with junior defenseman Derek Topatigh. It marked his sixth goal of the season, buying a drive from the point with freshman Corey Andonovski and Christian O'Neill earning assists.
Junior Liam Grande got an odd-man rush and sped to the goal finding the trailer in freshman Luke Keenan for the glove-side finish just 1:04 into the second.
Harvard evened things up with a power-play goal by Adam Fox at 6:04.
Just seven seconds into Princeton's fourth power play the Tigers converted with Alex Riche netting his fifth goal of the season, putting away a Max Véronneau rebound with Josh Teves collecting his second assist of the night.
The Princeton penalty kill killed off a slashing call to return to full strength at 17:54. Harvard attempted again to get something going, pulling Lackey for the extra attacker.
Senior Ryan Kuffner buried his 13th goal of the season putting away a Jake Paganelli shot as the two had a give-and-go after a blocked Harvard shot.
Sophomore Ryan Ferland made 29 stops in the win, while Lackey turned away 22.
The Tigers were 2 for 5 on the power play, while Harvard was 1 for 4.
