Shweisky Picks Up 100th Win As Princeton Grabs First Victory Of 2019 vs Erskine
January 12, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Head coach Sam Shweisky won the 100th match of his Princeton career, but the only number he focused on Saturday night in the final match of the 2019 Uvaldo Acosta Invitational was one — as in the first victory of the Princeton men's volleyball season. Greg Luck pounded out a season-best 20 kills to lead Princeton to a 3-1 victory over Erskine.
The Tigers, who played their first five matches against teams currently in the AVCA Top 15 — including three in the top six — hit .244 for the match and got 41 kills from its junior trio of Luck, George Huhmann and Parker Dixon in the 18-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21 win over the Flying Fleet.
Luck was spectacular for Princeton, and he flirted with a triple-double in the win. Luck hit .311 with his 20 kills, and he added eight digs and seven blocks in the victory. Huhmann was terrific as well; he hit .444 with 15 kills, five digs, four blocks and two service aces. Dixon had six kills and six digs, while sophomore Jess Hunt came off the bench and added six kills and five digs. Classmate Joe Kelly paced the offense with 44 assists, while freshman Jerod Nelsen added five digs. Fellow freshmen Brady. Wedbush (5 kills, 4 blocks) and Attila Delingat (3 blocks, 1 kill) added in the win in Princeton's last match before the finals break.
It was a milestonne win for Shweisky, the former EIVA Head Coach of the Year who led Princeton to the 2010, 2014 and 2018 EIVA championship match. Now in his 10th year at Princeton, Shweisky has also been a consistent member of the USA Volleyball program, and he has helped a trio of Tigers play professional volleyball following their Princeton careers.
