Princeton Sweeps Yale In Crucial Ivy Matchup On ESPNU

How about a sweep over the defending Ivy League Champions?
The Princeton Tigers earned a 3-0 decision (25-19, 25-14, 25-17) over the Yale Bulldogs to move into second place in the Ivy League.
Maggie O'Connell (11), Clare Lenihan (11) and Devon Peterkin (10) combined for 32 kills while the team produced a .409 hitting percentage in the win. Jessie Harris had 38 assists while the squad added five aces.
Three straight points forced the first stoppage of the contest by Yale as it trailed 10-7. In front by five, Princeton rattled off four consecutive points to take a commanding 19-10 lead. The Bulldogs closed within five, but the Tigers corralled a 25-19 set one win.
Even at 11-all in the set two, the Tigers ran off six connective tallies to jump ahead. Back-to-back kills from Peterkin and Harris made the Bulldogs call time, down 20-13. The Tigers posted four straight points to end the frame, 25-14.
Yale opened up the third set with a 4-0 push, but Princeton rallied to take a 10-9 lead. Tied at 13-all, four kills and an attack error put the Tigers up five (18-13). Yale got as close as four, but Princeton earned a 25-17 win and the sweep.
With the win, head coach Sabrina King's unit improved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League while Yale dropped to 8-6 and 4-1 in the conference. The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for the Bulldogs. Cornell remains at the top of the league at 5-0 with Princeton and Yale one game back.
The Tigers head on the road to take on Harvard (Oct. 18, 7 p.m.) and Dartmouth (Oct. 19, 5 p.m.) next weekend.
