Tigers Take Fourth at Penn State National Open

Princeton took fourth place at the Penn State National Open on Friday afternoon, scoring 116 points and averaging 21:24 on the 6k course.
The Tigers, receiving votes in the national poll, were led by freshman Maggie Liebich who led the team for the first time in her collegiate career. She finished 16th overall at 21:13.5 and was followed closely behind by junior Sophie Cantine in 18th place with a 21:16.2. Freshman Abby Loveys was the third scorer posting a time of 21:18.2. Sophomores Gillian Wagner and India Weir rounded out the scoring with times of 21:29.7 and 21:46.0 - as each finished in the top 45 in a race featuring 115 competitors.
"We took another step forward today as a group," head coach Brad Hunt said. "The team raced aggressively and together against NCAA ranked programs on a great course. We are excited about the :35 spread from 1 - 6 and we look forward to adding more firepower and depth to the race day lineup in the weeks ahead. We look forward to the opportunity to discover how good we can be come November and championship season."
Penn State, ranked 30th, won its own meet, and will be a contender Princeton will face again at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Nov. 15 at Lehigh University The top two teams at the Regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. Last year the Tigers did just that, taking second to make their way to championship weekend.
But first, Princeton will get championship season started with the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. The race will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 1 in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
The rest of the squad is gearing up to host the Princeton Invitational, tomorrow, Oct. 19 at West Windsor Fields. The women's 6k race begins at 10:45 am., with live results available here: https://results.leonetiming.com/XC.html?mid=1829
