Fillier Scores Twice as No. 8/8 Princeton Stops No. 5/5 Clarkson, 2-1
November 22, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Sarah Fillier had both goals for the Tigers as eighth-ranked Princeton beat fifth-ranked Clarkson 2-1 on Black Out Baker night at Baker Rink.
The two points from the win vaulted Princeton into first place in the ECAC Hockey League with 12 points, one in front of Cornell (11) and two in front of Harvard (10) with Clarkson and Colgate tied for fourth with seven. Princeton will wrap up the weekend with a visit from St. Lawrence at 3 p.m.
Fillier opened the scoring in the last minute of the first period when she poked the puck away from Clarkson blue-liner Lauren Bernard and created a one-on-one chance with Golden Knights netminder Marie-Pier Coulombe, finding the net for the 1-0 lead.
Â
Fillier doubled the lead with less than eight minutes to go before the second ice cut, putting in a rebound off a Carly Bullock shot to put Princeton ahead 2-0.
That's where it stayed until Clarkson's Meaghan Hector found Brooke McQuigge with a cross-ice pass with 14 minutes to play in the third, and McQuigge crashed the net to send it in behind sister and Tiger netminder Rachel McQuigge to cut Princeton's lead in half.Â
Princeton outshot Clarkson 47-21 on the night, including 13-4 after McQuigge's goal.Â
