Box Score

No. 7 Princeton (1-0-0) defeated No. 8 UConn (2-3-0) 2-1 on October 16 at Historic Hobey Baker Rink in the season opener for the Tigers and a rematch from the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers were outshot 37-25 but got 36 saves from senior netminder Uma Corniea and held UConn scoreless on five power-play chances along the way to open the season with a win.

Catie Collins put the Orange and Black ahead 7:25 into the first period, scoring at even strength off a Chloe Brinson assist. Strong work along the boards from Brinson on the forecheck led to a short pass back to Collins at the point and her low slapper funneled through the UConn goalie and in for a 1-0 Princeton lead.

The Tigers protected that lead through a UConn power play later in the frame, with Uma Corniea making five saves during the penalty kill to end the first period with the Orange and Black in front 1-0.

Princeton again had to dial in on the penalty kill in the second period, killing off two minutes of 5-on-3 after two penalties were called on Lia Cericola midway through the period. The Tigers held serve, denying multiple attempts from the Huskies and staying in front.

Megan Healy converted on the power play with 5:44 left in the second period, scoring off assists from Gabby Kim and Riley Sorokan to put the Tigers ahead 2-0. The Tigers were buzzing on that power play, generating five shots on goal before Healy's finish.

The Orange and Black kept UConn off the scoreboard almost the entire way before UConn scored with the extra attacker as Maya Serdachny scored with 1:07 to play in regulation to cut Princeton's lead in half.

The Orange and Black absorbed the final push, including late blocks by Healy and Angelina DiGirolamo, and closed out the 2-1 win.

Uma Corniea finished with 36 saves, including 14 in the third period.
