Men's Ice Hockey Defeated In Friendship Four Semis, 3-1
November 29, 2019 | Men's Ice Hockey
BELFAST – Princeton University was knocked off in the semifinals of the 2019 Friendship Four at SSE Arena by Colgate, falling to the Raiders 3-1.
An evenly-matched first period went without a goal until the final seconds when Colgate's John Snodgrass tucked home a rebound on the power play to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead after 20:00.
Princeton had a power play chance of its own early in the first period, but Colgate's Andrew Farrier made two saves – the second a point-blank stop on Luke Keenan who was stationed at the right post.
It didn't take long for the Tigers to light the lamp in the second period as Spencer Kertsen finished off a 3-on-2 just 1:21 into the second period. After Princeton won a faceoff in its own end, transition led to Kersten's second goal of the season with assists to Liam Gorman and Liam Grande.
Colgate answered 3:00 later, with Ben Sharf waiting out Aidan Porter to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.
Sharf added his second of the game past the midway point of the third period, connecting on a wrist shot down the left wing with 7:33 remaining in the third frame.
That goal was all the insurance Colgate needed as the Tigers could not solve Raider goalie Andrew Farrier the rest of the way.
Princeton won 36-of-62 faceoffs, led by Luke Keenan (10-of-16) and Kersten (11-of-18). Kersten also led all Tigers with four shots. Princeton was 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Princeton will conclude the 2019 Friendship Four with the consolation game against New Hampshire at 10 a.m. EST on November 30 from SSE Arena.
