Hamza Gains No. 1 Junior World Foil Ranking
December 02, 2019 | Men's Fencing
Mohamed Hamza, who earned All-America honors as a freshman by finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships, has attained the No. 1 world ranking among junior foil fencers, according to the International Fencing Federation.
Tiger alum Sage Palmedo '19 was another recent world junior No. 1, having reached that ranking among saber fencers in 2014-15.
Hamza is competing internationally this year, recently placing 20th at a World Cup event in Great Britain in early November followed a week later by a 46th-place finish at another World Cup event in Germany. In June, Hamza won silver at a Zone Championship event in Mali, and he'll head this weekend to another World Cup event in Thailand.
