Columbia Tops Princeton 7-2; Tigers Will Face Dartmouth Sunday
February 16, 2019 | Men's Squash
One day after a tough battle with second-seeded Rochester in the CSA quarterfinal, the Princeton men's squash team didn't have enough answers to pull of a second straight upset against Columbia. The Tigers fell 7-2 and will face Dartmouth Sunday at 11 am to determine the seventh- and eighth-place finishers at the national championships.
Freshman Daelum Mawji continued his season-ending hot streak by reversing a regular-season loss at the #3 position. Only eight days after falling to Callan Hall in four games, Mawji rallied from a 1-0 deficit to post a 3-1 victory of his own. He had full control of the match in the final two games, including a match-clinching 11-1 win in the fourth.
Columbia led 2-1 after the first shift and got to 4-1 with wins at #2 and #8, but junior captain Gabriel Morgan won his team-best 13th match of the season in three tough games over Carter Robitaille at the #5 spot. Morgan had wins of 11-9 and 15-13 to open the match, and then closed with an 11-6 victory.
Those wouldn't be enough to send Princeton to a win, as Columbia took the final shift 3-0 and will face Yale Sunday for sixth place in the nation.
