Princeton's Josh Teves has signed a one-year entry-level contract with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks, the club announced on Tuesday.
Â
"Josh had an outstanding collegiate career at Princeton," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said. "He has good vision and playmaking ability and can contribute in all three zones. We're excited to see him play at the professional level."
"Josh is a great leader and has been a staple on the blue line for us," Princeton head coach Ron Fogarty said. "He has battled every day since playing for the Fernie Ghostriders of the KIJHL, to be a top defenseman in the NCAA. He has earned this opportunity to play for the Vancouver Canucks."
Teves led the Princeton defense in scoring the last three seasons. He finishes his career with 85 points on 16 goals and 69 assists in 126 career games, while adding 213 blocked shots.
Â
Last year during Princeton's ECAC Championship season, Teves led the nation's defenseman in scoring averaging 1.06 points per game with 33 points in 31 games.
Â
He holds the Princeton record for assists by a defenseman with 69, which ranks ninth amongst all skaters. Teves is second in the records book for points in a career with 85 and has the single-season record for assists with 26 from the 2017-18 season.
Â
As a sophomore he captured first-team All-Ivy League honors with a 25-points season. As a junior he was a third-team All-ECAC Hockey and first-team All-Ivy League selection. He was named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team.
Â
A nominee for the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award, Teves is also a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
Â
A native of Calgary, Teves attended the Vancouver development camp last summer.
