IRA Releases Lightweight Selections For Championship Regatta

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) announced their selections for the 2019 IRA National Championship Regatta (May 31-June 2).

The men's lightweight V8 squad will see action in a heat with Penn., Columbia and Harvard. Yale, Navy, Georgetown and Cornell make up the other heat. The V4+ team is in a preliminary with Harvard, Georgetown and Columbia. V4- unit's race is with Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard and Cornell. The other heat has Georgetown, Mercyhurst, Penn, Columbia and Navy.

"We saw at Sprints how your seed or past results don't mean much in the lightweight league this year," said head coach Marty Crotty. "The IRA is up for grabs, and we feel like we have just as good of a chance as anybody else."

The Tigers produced a silver medal at last year's IRA National Championship, falling just 3-to-4 seats shy of Columbia. It was Princeton's best finish since 2010. Earlier, this season, the Tigers defeated Columbia by 2.7 seconds to win the Campbell Cup.
