Princeton's Outstanding Season Ends at No. 10 Washington in NCAA Second Round
May 04, 2019 | Women's Tennis
A day after the second NCAA tournament win in program history, the Princeton women's tennis team battled No. 10 Washington to a 4-0 defeat in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
No. 34 Princeton came within a tiebreaker of taking the doubles point, with Stephanie Schrage and Nathalie Rodilosso forcing that tiebreaker on court three after Washington won on court two and Nicole Kalhorn and Brianna Shvets won on court one.
Washington got wins on courts one, two and four to get to four points and take the match, but both Nicole Kalhorn, the lone senior in the lineup, and Nathalie Rodilosso, on courts five and six, forced third sets, and Grace Joyce on court three was within a tiebreaker of doing so. Kalhorn was within a game of winning her match when play was halted once Washington clinched.
The match capped a season that saw Princeton win 19 matches, tied for the second-most in program history and one off the program record, win the Ivy League and make the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in the last six years, win the program's 15th Ivy title and make the program's 10th NCAA tournament appearance, win a first-round NCAA match for the second time in program history, and net four All-Ivy League honorees while seeing coach Laura Granville win Ivy Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in the award's five-year history.
