September 29, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
For the fifth time since 2007, a Princeton Hockey alum has raised the Stanley Cup!
Jeff Halpern '99, assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning, earned the right to lift Lord Stanley following the Lightning's 2-0 win over Dallas in Game 6.
Halpern won the Cup in his second season as an assistant coach with the Lightning -- his first NHL coaching gig following a 14-year career as a player which saw him appear in 976 games and tally 373 points. During his playing career, Halpern spent parts of three seasons with the Lightning where he had 51 points in 126 games from 2007-10.
Now a champion in the NHL, Halpern adds to his hockey career which includes an ECAC Championship. Halpern had 53 points in 36 games during Princeton's 1998 ECAC title run. He still ranks No. 4 all-time in points by a Princeton Tiger (142), No. 6 all-time in goals (60) and No. 4 in assists (82). In 199, he was named the recipient of the William Winston Roper Trophy presented each year to the most outstanding senior male student-athlete at Princeton. During his Princeton Hockey career, Halpern was a three-time recipient of the Blackwell Trophy which is presented annually to "that member of the Princeton varsity hockey team who in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport."
