CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) setback to Harvard University Friday night inside the Malkin Athletic Center.
Senior Julia Schner led the Tigers in kills with nine, while junior Lindsey Kelly led the match in assists with 27. Freshman Mariah Haislip had a match-high six blocks, while Kelly added a career-high five, eclipsing her previous career-best of three from Princeton's match against Hofstra University on Saturday, September 11. Junior Cameron Dames finished with a team-high ten digs, and freshman Nicole Dankinova led the team in service aces with two.
The opening set began as a back-and-forth battle; with the score knotted at 4-4, Harvard used a 4-0 run to jump ahead, 8-4. Shortly after, Princeton would go on a 4-0 run of its own sparked by a Schner kill, to make narrow the margin to one at 13-12. A senior Grace Klepetka service ace tied it up at 16-16, then with the score tied at 20-20 Princeton would take a 22-20 lead following a Crimson attacking error and a Montgomery kill. Harvard would eventually battle back to prevail in the set, 25-23.
Set number two began in similar fashion to the first, as the Tigers and Crimson traded points. A double block by Kelly and Hailsip tied it up at 7-7. Harvard would then go on a 6-0 run to surge ahead, 16-10. Princeton attempted to battle back, but Harvard held on to win the set with a score of 25-12.
A double block by Montgomery and Schner tied it up at 3-3 early in the third set, but Harvard responded with a 3-0 to take a 6-3 lead. A kill by Schner would narrow the margin to one point at 12-11, but Harvard would use a 3-0 run to take a 15-11 lead. Princeton would make it as close as 23-20 following a Schner kill, but the Crimson would hold on to win the set 25-20, and the match 3-0.
