Men's Soccer Gathers For "Virtual Reunion" To Wrap Up 2020-21

At the end of May, the Princeton men's soccer program gather together generations of Tigers to celebrate the Class of 2021, talk soccer, and look ahead to the future.
As part of a "Virtual Reunion", head coach Jim Barlow welcomed a pair of acclaimed soccer journalists and Princeton alumni to share their insights into the game. Grant Wahl '96 and Sebastian Abbot '98 helped lead a conversation about the state of the sport and what to look for on a national and international level while also finding time to reminisce on their time at Princeton.
"We're fortunate to have so many alumni who are passionate about the sport of soccer and are active in the game on many different levels," said head coach Jim Barlow '91. "Whether its playing professionally, coaching at the highest level, serving in management, or providing standout commentary and coverage of the sport there have been so many deep connections with the sport fostered at Princeton and it was an honor to gather us all together to celebrate the sport and how Princeton has impacted our lives."

In addition to the alumni conversation, the Tigers handed out their 2021 team awards and celebrated the Class of 2021.
The David S. Hackett '65 Memorial Soccer Cup was presented to Rich Wolf. This award is given to the senior whose enthusiasm, discipline and leadership contributed most to the team and to the sport of soccer at Princeton. It is given by his teammates and classmates of the Class of 1965 in memory of First Lieutenant David S. Hackett, United States Marine Corps, who was killed in action in Vietnam on April 29, 1967.
The Robert Hauter Myslik '90 Award was presented to Jonah Lytle. This award is given to the member of the Princeton men's soccer team who most demonstrates the passion for life, the fiery competitiveness, the unwavering honesty, and the selfless generosity of our beloved teammate, friend, and coach. Rob was a teammate and great friend of Coach Barlow's, and served as a member of the coaching staff in 1999 and 2000. He was a shining example of all that Princeton Soccer hopes to be. He was killed in an automobile accident in January, 2003. Our game field is named in Rob's memory.

The final piece of the "Virtual Reunion" was a chance for the coaching staff to look ahead to the 2021 season by introducing the five newcomers set to join the team in the fall. Meet the new Tigers!
