Venema Wins 100 Butterfly at Wave I U.S. Olympic Trials

OMAHA, Neb. – Nicole Venema of the Princeton University women's swimming & diving team advanced to Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Trials after winning the 100 butterfly Sunday inside the CHI Health Center.
A time of 59.24 saw Venema touch the wall first and advance to Wave II of the trials, which take place from Sunday, June 13, to Sunday, June 20. She progressed to the A final after finishing second in her heat with a time of 59.89.
In the 100 freestyle, she advanced to the B final and touched the wall at 56.01 to finish second. Venema finished tied for ninth in her heat of the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.33. She also competed in the 50 freestyle, where she finished 25th out of 61 competitors with a time of 26.16.
In the 400 freestyle, Ellie Marquardt won the B final after finishing in a time of 4:14.56. In the prelim, she finished 14th in 4:20.96.
Isabella Korbly advanced to the B final in the 100 backstroke, finishing second in 1:02.33. In her heat, she finished tied for ninth with a time of 1:02.86.
Liza Whitmire made it to the B final of the 200 IM, where she finished seventh in 2:19.94. She finished 17th in her heat after touching the wall at 2:21.28.
Amelia Liu competed in the 100 freestyle and finished 22nd with a time of 57.16. She also finished 26th in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 26.17.
In the 100 backstroke, Margaux McDonald finished 19th in 1:03.35.
